Are You Sure You Know What You Really Want?
There are so many people working so hard to get “what they want”. We work, work, work, whether through dedication, or using the Law of Atraction, or any other way– people are all about getting what they want.
But– what if what we think we want is not necessarily what we want?
What if (somehow) we are being manipulated to want things without our knowledge?
What if our goals and desires– the things we give so much of our time and effort to– are not really our own?
You have to watch this documentary, called The Century of the Self. It will change your life.
If you’re in a rush, just take a look at these two excerpts.
The story is about Edward Bernays (the nephew of Sigmund Freud), and how he used “Uncle Siggy’s” ideas about the Subconscious to create the industry of “Public Relations” aka “Propaganda”. (He admits those two are the same thing in the longer version of the video– and he says that he was the one that changed the name).
This first clip shows how Bernays manipulated Subconscious desire to convince women to smoke, despite a serious taboo about the subject at the time.
And this one (from Part II of the same documentary) is about how Bernays helped the U.S. to legitimize the war with Guatemala– which was really waged in the interests of the United Fruit Company:
What do you think?
Amazing, huh?
I hope you watched these clips carefully. If you did, you probably should go back and watch the longer one as well. It will blow your mind.
What’s the sense of perfecting your use of “The Secret” (or any other method) to get what you want, if it’s not really what YOU want?
If you just watched the videos (which you should), you see how easily a few people were able to control the mass of the American psyche and manipulate them to buy products, politicians, policies, and wars. Really, through the correct maipulation of the subconscious, any desire could be stimulated.
I’m sure that the people who were living at that time never knew that they were being manipulated to smoke cigarettes, to buy a new car, or to support the war in Guatemala. They thought that they really WANTED those things.
But, in the video, you can see the master of “Public Relations” aka “Propaganda”, Edward Bernays, telling us that they were manipulating people buy stimulating the subconscious. There’s no doubt about it.
And these examples were from over 50 years ago. Do you think that the techniques of persuasion have gotten better or worse? More obvious, or more subtle?
Think about it.
While you’re considering all that we have already discussed, let’s take a look at a more modern example:
As you can clearly see, they are still at it. Convincing us that we need a Hummer in New York City by stimulating irrational subconscious desires with even more advanced psychology behind them.
Maybe even still convincing us to fight wars for corporate concerns…
If you are working hard, using the Law of Attraction, etc. to get a Hummer (or anything else), how do you know that YOU really want that Hummer? How do you know that someone hasn’t very skillfully implanted that idea in your Subconscious (just like smoking or the war in Guatemala from the examples above)?
And, if all of our effort is going into desires that are not really ours, how can we ever be really happy? Isn’t that why we work so hard to get what (we think) we want anyway?
Are you ready to find out which of your desires are really yours? To find out who YOU really are in the midst of all of this ever-so-subtle manipulation?
Or, do you think that you haven’t been affected by any of this?
If you are ready to free your mind, you’re at the right place.
