The Opening of the Heart
For many of us who have been hurt earlier in life, opening our hearts may be difficult as our previous painful experience made us unconsciously “shut down”, closing our hearts to emotion.
Sometimes, in the process of opening our hearts, we might go through the original emotion that forced us to shut down in the first place.
However, just like an intense light might be painful if blind people were to immediately gain the ability to see, or sounds may seem extremely loud for a deaf person who instantly gained the ability to hear, the pain that we may experience as the heart begins to re-awaken is the pain of a new sense organ coming alive.
In fact, it is a feeling of rebirth as we will be able to experience life and love in a completely different way afterwards. We will feel feelings that we could have never imagined before the opening of our hearts.
One of those new feelings that we gain access to is the feeling of deep love for others. Not in the romantic sense (although this becomes more available as well), but in a sense of love for the humanity that exists in each and every person.
It extends further than that actually, to a love for the spark of life that exists in everything. Many would call this feeling of love a spiritual experience.
